- In each of the video tutorials above, the teacher either finds the area of the base or it is already given. What is the teacher multiplying the area of the prism's base by? This strategy will work for every prism as long as you're given the area of the prism's base.

Area of a Circle
I can describe how the area of a circle increases as its radius and diameter increase.I can describe the relationship between the area of a circle and its radius.
- Video tutorial #1
- This video might seem odd at first because there's no audio. Here's the main ideas behind this video
- 1. Those small squares that were used to cover the circle are called radius squares. The base and height of the radius square is r, so the area of each radius square is r x r.
- 2. These radius squares were trimmed so that they'd be more circle-shaped. Then, the radius squares were placed over the circle (along with the scraps that were cut off each square).
- 3. How many radius squares did it take to cover the circle? Make sure you can answer this question before moving on to the next step.
- 4. To find the area of a circle, take your answer from step 3 and multiply by r x r to get the approximate area of a circle. (Remember, we're multiplying by r x r because that's the area of one radius square.) What formula do you come up with?

- Exploring area of a circle
- Start by clicking on straighten the circumference. Click on other boxes as they come up, and then use the sliders to rearrange and dissect the circle. As the parts of the circle get smaller, what happens to the dissected shape? What other (non-circular) shape seems to form?
Surface Area and Volume of a Cylinder

- Video tutorial #3 (formula)
- You may have noticed that in the first two video tutorials, C =πd. In the third video tutorial, πd is missing from the formula A = 2πr^2 + 2πrh. Where did it go? Well, remember that the radius of a circle is half the diameter. This means that C =πd = 2πr. So 2πrh is really the circumference times the height of the rectangle.
